Fairfield County Adult Protective Services collaborates with many local service providers to meet the needs of elders in our community. Our staff meet monthly with members of an Elder Abuse Interdisciplinary team to discuss solutions, trends and promote education and awareness. Membership includes representatives from local law enforcement agencies, financial institutions, health care agencies, medical facilities and those agencies serving the senior population. We also work closely with other agencies that meet general needs of older adults including Meals on Wheels, Social Security, Passport, Medicare and more. The National Council on the Aging created this free, easy to use service that identifies federal and state assistance programs for older Americans. This site includes information on programs such as Supplemental Security Income, Medicaid, state prescription drug benefits, Meals on Wheels, food stamps, health insurance counseling, veterans' medical care and transportation.
To pinpoint which programs could benefit you or a loved one 55 or older, go to this web site and fill out the questionnaire, which takes about 15 minutes. It's in large type and includes help buttons that elaborate on the instructions. You will be asked age, income, and zip code, but not your name, social security number, or other information that could identify you. Upon completion of the questionnaire, you'll get a "results overview" with a list of potential benefits you qualify for. Click on each one to find out more details about eligibility and where to find local offices in all 50 states.
